BRIAN JACKSON
After studying at Kettering, Brighton and Nottingham Brian

in Public Art, including work with Sheffield’s Wildlife Trust and Doncaster’s “Quality
Streets” town centre renewal scheme.
Brian has established an enviable reputation with collectors
throughout the UK and is proud to have the late Duke of Devonshire

Chatsworth Estate.
Brian’s work will be on show

BRIAN’S STATEMENT
What happens before ideas? Or rather,
what happens just before ideas are formed? It’s a
subconscious state where the dynamics of colour, mood,
emotion, sensation and sound; formulate and melt into a
rounded concept, which is then translated into a communicational
vehicle, painting, poetry, music or rather like the remnants
to a dream is left to fade untranslated. The primitive
point where an idea is unformed and yet is beginning to
evolve is the starting point of my painting.
I start when the rabbit skin glue size is still wet. Using
a mixture of media and techniques I develop the composition
and form. Following this early stage often the piece lies
dormant for days, weeks or sometimes years. Sometimes but
not very often it becomes the finished thing.
The next stage when I am good and ready is oil. Starting
slowly and building to a frenzy as I trust in my skills and
techniques enough to let the subconscious take over.
The final stage is analysis. Although analysis can often
lead to reworking sometimes as dramatic as cutting the canvas
up and re-stretching, anything is possible.
As with life painting for me is never easy; hopes and expectations
rarely relate to the final outcome.
